Why Was It

Why was it
That you brought me here
Among these diamonds and dust:
Was it a weak moment--
Your last grasp at wanderlust;
Was it your last breath--
Am I the only you could trust;

Why was it
That vou brought me here
To this place of gold and mist:
Was it all planned out--
Or are you improvising a tryst;
Was it your grand event--
Or am I a number on a list;

Why was it
That you brought me here
To this place of bronze and haze:
Was it a last request--
Your chance to go out in a blaze;
Was it in a right mind--
Or were you within another daze;

Why was it
That you brought me here
Underneath this evergreen and shade:
Was it out of pity--
Because of some debt to be paid;
Was it out of love--
A love you didn't want to fade;

Why was it
That you brought me here
To this land of stone and shine:
Was it only a moment--
Or a part of some higher design;
Was it lust for you--
Or is this memory to be all mine;

Why was it
That you brought me here
Among this rubble and rain:
Was it for pleasure--
Or a method to ease someone's pain;
Was it to resurrect--
Or is one of our heart's to be lain....
