Two Left Shoes
Three rings are filled with love, hope and despair
The last is first while the others are rare;
Keeping them all trapped in a muddled cage
The lions of confusion roar out their bitter rage;
To slip past the lions takes a pinpoint mind
Many years ago that would be easy to find;
Lost within moments too deep to pursue
Free will is hidden with logic in the zoo....
Escape is impossible
So douse the fuse,
No way to unbuckle or remove
Those two left shoes.
Standing to the side of a gravestone growing old
His lover's face echoing outside with the cold;
Eyes, which could never gloss over or crack,
Suddenly fell victim to a darker shade of black;
That evening began like any other night
No one had the notion of borrowing foresight;
The King and Queen glowed, the night was young,
The streets were warm, they were the Sun....
Traffic poured on the highway like sparkling wine
His car mercurial, a dynamic, silvery-thin line;
Thoughts of Pegasus overtook his silken form
The car was flying over vehicles lying stillborn;
The King and Queen, still full of good cheer,
Disregarded the sign saying " Road Ends Here ";
Fate sent a hand that could only hold one:
It chose he whose suffering wouldn't be undone....
Somewhere along the line
A man must pay his dues,
Walk off the debt by living in
Two left shoes.
His hands are washed when morning comes
The night before left scattered like crumbs;
This half of his world so settled and serene
It's only after the fire he becomes a walking scene;
Tonight, once again, he makes his stuttered move
Only in this hemisphere, he feels this mood;
To the door of his daughter he staggerdly arrives
She wakes up to the nightmare playing in his eyes....
Buried deep within are thoughts usually too vile
On this night those thoughts are put on trial;
Hands fight back, from her, this tattered frame
Her last chance to escape this eternal flame;
A trinket she found inside a kitchen drawer
Is used on the ogre, who falls to the floor;
Tears bleed from her eyes-- his wound weeps
Been too long since she's been allowed to sleep....
They saw it all wrong
On the front-page news,
She must dance around innuendo
In her two left shoes.
