The Children [ part I ]

Children must lie in the beds
Made by their mothers & fathers
No matter how dirty the sheets,

Children must always live down
The legacies of mothers & fathers
No matter how sordid their feats;

Children must fill the shoes
Worn by their mothers & fathers
No matter how bare the soles,

Children must wear the robes
That clothed their mothers & fathers
No matter how large the holes;

Children are living scrapbooks
With unchangable pages....
Children are the disciples
Of fraudulent sages....
Children are the billboards
That echo through the ages:
Children are not to fault
If we call all of these cages....

Children must honor the words
Spoken by their mothers & fathers
No matter how hollow they ring,

Children must bear the grudges
Held by their mothers & fathers
No matter how much they sting;

Children must mend the bonds
Weakened by their mothers & fathers
No matter how distant they seem,

Children must always live out
The aspirations of mothers & fathers
No matter how different their dreams;

Children are living scrapbooks
With unchangable pages....
Children are the disciples
Of fraudulent sages....
Children are the billboards
That echo through the ages:
Children are not to fault
If we call all of these cages....
