Searching

Spent most of my time behind four walls,
Spent most of my sight looking out,
Spent most of my voice talking to myself
Wondering what life was all about.
The answers, I know they must exist
But I won't find any inside here.
It's out there where the answers come,
By sampling all the tastes on this sphere.

Spent most of my childhood drawing heroes,
Spent most of my teens hiding out,
Spent most of my education by myself
Figuring out what life was all about.
Within all these books and pictures I had
There must be a clue or two.
I tried to read between every single line
But those answers never came through.

Spent most of my grant recording numbers,
Spent most of my diploma seeking out,
Spent most of my now writing to myself
Thinking out what life was all about.
All the words and positions I performed
Were in vain because of their reticence.
My search for meaning is all but over
So the missing ingredient must be confidence.
