Only If

Though you act so bold, there's chimera in your eyes.
What of all that talk about attaining higher skies.
Have you found this a little beyond your reach?

You clutch onto my arm, there's shiver in your grip.
This is so different from the other day's head trip.
I pass on this lesson, which someone forgot to teach....

Good things come to those who wait,
But only if it's your destiny, only if it's your fate.

You walk stuttered and careful, eyes darting left and right.
Where was this before when mettle glowed in the night.
You're thinking the blade you brandish is too dull?

Inside, you stare at the clock, trying to hold its hands.
Once you sat before the hour glass coaxing down the sand.
I present to you this recitation you should mull....

Good things come to those who wait,
But only if it's your destiny, only if it's your fate.

You wrap up so very tight, closing your eyes to all.
Before today you were alive, standing strong and tall.
What happened in between that caused this rubble?

Spying on the neighbor's children, you mutely mimic their play.
Has a thought recessed your head back to your yesterday.
Please listen, I'll tell you something to ease this trouble....

Good things come to those who wait,
But only if it's your destiny, only if it's your fate.

You turn around to me, I see frost forming your face.
I've never saw this when you bragged about your chase.
Always thought your coolness was only on the inside.

Now the darkness has your attention, you begin to melt.
At last the truth is finally allowed to be felt.
Through a veil of tears, these words you confide....

Good things come to those who wait,
But only if it's your destiny, only if it's your fate.
