Gravitational Shame

Gravitational shame
The one that keeps you down,
Licking the dirt off every shoe
Kissing the ass of gratitude
Making amends for the act of breath;
Was it you who bought those rags....
Was it you who killed dignity--
Of course, that's why you're here!
Did you clean out your locker
Where you once stored suits of pride,
Threw it away in one bundle--
I hope you didn't give it to the Army
The one where people donate salvation
All we need is a city full of pride....
People are much easier to control
When they're floating in their own piss.

Gravitational shame
The one that weighs you down,
Like the foot of the cold soldier
With his heel holding down your head
A head reminiscing with the mud;
Remember you were here yesterday
And the day before that.... remember ?
Ah, those were the good old days
When it was easier to clean our shoes
But now the dirt's hard to remove--
Still, it's easy to wash your hands
And spend the night with T.V.
Watching ourselves doing the job....
Satisfying, I am proud to say;
You know, watching this show,
The old saying is truly a lie:
You can keep a good man down--
Permanently.
